Key Features of our Scope of Works
- The works contained bulk excavation and the formation of earth embankments.
- Works were initially carried out through the winter months in severe weather conditions.
- Structural works including the construction and alteration to new and existing manholes including installation of new inlets and outlets, penstocks and pipe laying to divert watercourses through new flood alleviation scheme.
- Creation of 4 No. earth bunds including 900mm dia. culverts with screened inlets and outlets.
- Creation of a new open channel for the Scatterburn Watercourse and installation of geo-textiles and rock roll erosion protection.
- Creation of joint footpaths/cycleways including edging, paving, vehicle barriers, fencing and ducts laying for future street lighting.
- Landscaping; regrading and spreading topsoil over the landscaped areas.
- Installation of natural bank protection – coir roll installation held in place by hardwood timber posts driven into the watercourse bank combined with geotextile layers.
- Demolition and replacement of steel palisade fencing of over 220m along the north boundary of the site.
- The new drainage for management of the flood scheme included sustainable urban drainage systems, ponds and swales.
- Rock rolls and a combination of ‘Vmax C350’ erosion control reinforced matting was installed along the newly realigned watercourse.
- The formation of the swales and ponds lead to an enhanced wetland and wildflower meadow area, to the lower section of site, which was to encourage other habitats to thrive.
- Worked with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and adhered to CAR licences.
- Management of site security – as this works area was within a play park area for children, various no-go areas were introduced, and suitable hoarding and signage installed to ensure public safety was maintained.

How Cleantech Civils Added Value
The Cleantech Civils team is no stranger to a challenge. Excessive rain and snow exasperated the ground conditions. However, our team are never without a plan.
We swiftly advised the client that we would need to implement additional environmental measures – taking into account the large catchment area for surface water along with water emanating from the existing culvert running through the park. For this reason, we installed various silt catchment areas and natural bunding around the inlets.
This initiated the process of cleaning of all discoloured surface water by heavy plant movements. Thankfully, all waterway access points featured settlement ponds which worked well in our favour, considering the challenging ground conditions created by continuously poor weather events.
