How Cleantech Civils Added Value

As always, we remain committed to delivering high-quality engineering services on world-class projects. The boundary of Abbott Ireland’s site location is in close proximity to the Annalee River and the main Cavan-Monaghan Road, nestled into the drumlin hills common to the region. From the get-go, we knew that expanding the factory’s footprint would be no easy feat.

Our team coordinated excavation into the hill at the rear of the site, filling into lower areas and disposal off-site. This was one of the biggest challenges was, undoubtedly, completing such a mammoth task without interrupting the factory’s ongoing operations or disrupting their high hygiene standards. In fact, this was one of our client’s biggest concerns. Additionally, the factory sources water from the Annalee River – which is crucial for the factory’s daily operations.

However, we reassured the client that we had methods in place to meticulously manage all surface water created and discharged from the new development. In fact – for this particular project – we assigned a dedicated team to absorb all responsibility for the planning and monitoring of this process. We care about preserving the factory’s natural resources just as much as the client does, and we were prepared to take on extra measures to ensure zero compromise in this regard.

The process pipeline, an integral element of the factory operation, involved us installing 4-meter deep, double-contained pipelines and manholes – using proven methodologies and the most advanced technologies available (the likes of micro tunnelling, directional drilling, electrofusion welding, and butt welding). This way, we sidestepped the need to excavate large sections while laying pipes to gradient at depth. This process also lowered the construction carbon footprint by reducing disposal from the site and importing backfill material.

At this construction project’s peak, there were 500 people on the construction site. Even with so many staff members to manage, we successfully carried the project from conception to completion with zero disruption or interruption to the factory’s operations or surface water management. As usual, this can only be achieved through ongoing planning, programming, liaison, and communication between site management teams.
